OEM, ODM practical flow
In this bog, we will deliver our practical flow of Kato Trading, which has abundant OEM and ODM results.
The way to proceed when making a product
First of all, when making products with OEM and ODM, it seems that it often starts with various perspectives (trends and needs) and small ideas.
Based on this perspective and ideas, we make concrete product plans and put them into shape.
From now on, we introduce each flow from the stage when inquiries are made to Kato Trade.
The flow from inquiry to beyond
- Inquiry
- Hearing
- Specifications confirmed
- First sample manufacturing
- Sample adjustment
- Order → production
- Inspection → shipment
- Transportation (air or ship)
- Delivery
There are roughly the above processes before the products are delivered.
Rough explanation of each process
1. Inquiry
Inquiries from companies that want to make products. We often received it from our website.
We ask the clients for company information and what kind of product they want to make.
2. Hearing
After receiving inquiries, we will reply to them by phone or email immediately.
We also hear about specific product requests, number of products, suggested selling price, and payment terms.
After all, even if it’s the best idea, the unit price per product and the budget will be a big concern, so we will ask carefully here as well.
And if the sales start time and desired delivery date are decided in advance, it is necessary to make a production schedule according to that date, so this is also an important hearing point.
3. specification confirmed, 4. first sample manufacturing, 5. sample adjustment
At this point, we will accurately determine the specifications (design) of the product we actually want to make, and proceed to the first sample production.
Even if it is a just sample, if there is a gap here, it will be a serious delay for later processes and schedules, so we will proceed carefully.
For reference, it takes about 1 month for the specification confirmed and about 3 weeks to 1 month for the first sample production.
Especially when making products with particular attention, some companies do not confirm only the first sample, but repeat it 2 to 4 times. We will proceed here in consultation with the production schedule.
6. Production, 7.Inspection → shipment
If the sample is manufactured and the specifications are finalized, we will request the factory to produce it.
The production period is approximately 30 to 45 days or 60 to 90 days. This process varies depending on the situation due to reasons such as factory lines and procuring materials.
Then, when the production is completed and the product is inspected successfully, it will be shipped from the factory.
8. Transportation (air or ship), 9. Delivery
The number of days varies depending on whether the transportation is by air or ship.
If it’s going well, it takes about 10 days for an air and 3-4 weeks for a ship. In addition, customs clearance may take some more time.
When the product finally arrives in Japan through the above process, it will be delivered at the end, but it might change depending on the desired delivery location such as the designated warehouse.
Summary
We have briefly introduced the process from product production to delivery.
It takes time and effort to make one product. It is important to proceed carefully and politely.
